This past weekend, Hope CommUnity Center recognized 45 host families for their service and dedication in the Service Learning Immersion program. Organizers of the Host Family Celebration praised the countless hours the host families have given of their time to teach students from high schools and colleges around the country about their real, lived experiences as immigrant and farmworking families in Central Florida.
While much of the praise went to the host families, the host families themselves expressed gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity to meet people who have different cultures and life experiences. For many of the families, each new student they host is like welcoming a new member to the family.
Organizers of the Host Family Celebration say that recognition events like this create a space to affirm community members we work with and demonstrate to them the impact they have on students who stay with them.
